Status grades such as U/RA, SA and withdrawal are not counted in the cleared-course GPA calculation. R2021 theory grades can be relative; enter the letter grade shown by your institution rather than converting marks yourself.
Anna University GPA formula
GPA = Σ(Credits × Grade Point) ÷ Σ(Credits of successfully cleared counted courses). Anna University calls the semester metric GPA; students may also search for SGPA.
R2025 grade points
For affiliated non-autonomous B.E./B.Tech. R2025, the standard scale is S=10, A+=9, A=8, B+=7, B=6.5, C+=6 and C=5. Standard course mark bands are 91–100, 81–90, 71–80, 66–70, 61–65, 56–60 and 50–55 respectively. NPTEL/SWAYAM courses have separate mark ranges, so this page asks for the awarded grade rather than converting NPTEL marks.
R2021 is different
R2021 uses O=10, A+=9, A=8, B+=7, B=6 and C=5. Relevant theory courses use relative grading, while absolute grading applies in specified cases. U/RA grades are excluded from GPA and CGPA under the approved amended regulation.

GPA formula
GPA = Σ(Credit × Grade Point) ÷ Σ(Credits of successfully cleared counted courses).
Use the letter grade on your official result. R2021 relative grading does not create one universal marks-to-grade table.
What is counted
- Credit-bearing theory, laboratory, project and seminar courses that contribute to the semester result.
- The grade point assigned by the selected regulation.
What is excluded
- R2025 U, SA and WC status grades.
- R2021 U or RA, SA, WD or W status grades, plus non-credit or value-added courses where the record excludes them.
Worked example
R2025 example: 3 credits at A+ gives 27 points, 4 credits at B gives 26, and 2 credits at C gives 10. The GPA is 63 ÷ 9 = 7.00. A 1-credit U is left out.
Common mistakes
- Using B = 6 instead of the R2025 B value of 6.5.
- Turning raw marks into a grade when the R2021 course uses relative grading.
