Use official semester SGPAs and credits. Because printed SGPAs are rounded to two decimals, a reconstruction can differ slightly from JNTUH's course-level CGPA. R25 final-degree CGPA also applies the best-160-credit rule.
How JNTUH CGPA is calculated
Official CGPA = Σ(Course Credits × Grade Point) ÷ Σ(Course Credits). This calculator reconstructs the cumulative value from each semester's SGPA and credits. Since JNTUH reports SGPA to two decimals, a very small rounding difference from the university-calculated CGPA is possible.
R25: students register for 164 credits and the final B.Tech CGPA uses the courses corresponding to the best 160 credits when more than 160 are earned. Up to 4 credits may be exempted only from eligible courses; Professional Core, laboratories, seminars, project work and the listed research/internship categories cannot be dropped. Minor/Honours credits do not count toward the required 160.
R22: the revised regulation says there is no credit exemption; the final CGPA is computed from the applicable programme credits.

Regulation scope
For JNTUH B.Tech. students in non-autonomous affiliated or constituent colleges, use R25 from 2025–26 and R22 for the applicable 2022–23 cohorts. Autonomous colleges and other programmes publish their own rules.
JNTUH CGPA formula
CGPA = Σ(Credit × Grade Point) ÷ Σ(Credits). Under R25, the final degree CGPA uses the best 160 credits when more than 160 credits are earned.
R25 can exempt up to 4 eligible extra credits, but not professional core, laboratory, seminar, project or internship credits. R22 does not use this exemption.
What is counted
- Required B.Tech. credit courses and their official grade points.
- R25 credits selected under the best 160-credit rule, excluding the protected categories.
What is excluded
- R25 Minor and Honours credits from the required degree CGPA.
- Credits outside the applicable degree structure or from an autonomous college rule.
Worked example
If counted courses are 4 credits at A, 3 at B+ and 2 at C, the points are 32 + 21 + 10 = 63 over 9 credits, giving 7.00. An eligible extra course can be left out under R25’s final selection.
Common mistakes
- Taking a plain average of semester SGPAs.
- Applying R25 best 160 credits or its exemption to an R22 record.
