Frequently asked questions

How does this VTU CGPA calculator work?

It applies Σ(Credits × Grade Point) ÷ Σ(Credits) exactly as published in B.E./B.Tech Regulations 2022 (Clauses 6.1, 6.2, 6.6 and 6.7). B.E./B.Tech students governed by the 2022 scheme in applicable VTU constituent and affiliated colleges.

Will this match the CGPA on my official VTU transcript?

It should, as long as you enter every counted course with the same credits and letter grade shown on your official grade sheet. This calculator was last checked against VTU B.E./B.Tech Regulations 2022 on 2026-09-12 by GradeCalculator.in editorial team. If VTU has since revised the regulation, the official grade sheet takes precedence.

How do I convert my VTU CGPA to a percentage?

VTU's published conversion is percentage = CGPA × 10. Use the CGPA to percentage calculator to apply it automatically.

Regulation scope

For B.E./B.Tech. students under VTU Regulations 2022, generally from 2022–23 admissions onward, across applicable affiliated and constituent colleges. VTU now also lists a 2025 scheme, so newer cohorts must check that scheme.

VTU CGPA formula

CGPA = Σ(Credit × Semester Grade Point) ÷ Σ(Credits), rounded to two decimal places.

Use the semester grade points and credits from the same scheme. Do not mix a 2025 scheme semester with a 2022 scheme calculation.

What is counted

  • Semester grade points and credits from credit-bearing B.E./B.Tech. courses.
  • Failed courses only when the official VTU result includes their credit and zero grade point in the calculation.

What is excluded

  • DX credits, which VTU says are not included in CGPA.
  • AU audit, PP or NP non-credit, IC and W or other no-credit entries.

Worked example

A GPA of 7.40 over 22 credits contributes 162.80. A GPA of 8.10 over 24 credits contributes 194.40. CGPA = 357.20 ÷ 46 = 7.77.

Common mistakes

  • Taking a plain average of semester GPAs.
  • Using the 2022 rule for a 2025 scheme cohort or adding DX and audit credits.
