Frequently asked questions

How does this VTU SGPA calculator work?

It applies Σ(Credits × Grade Point) ÷ Σ(Credits) exactly as published in B.E./B.Tech Regulations 2022 (Clauses 6.1, 6.2, 6.6 and 6.7). B.E./B.Tech students governed by the 2022 scheme in applicable VTU constituent and affiliated colleges.

Will this match the SGPA on my official VTU transcript?

It should, as long as you enter every counted course with the same credits and letter grade shown on your official grade sheet. This calculator was last checked against VTU B.E./B.Tech Regulations 2022 on 2026-09-12 by GradeCalculator.in editorial team. If VTU has since revised the regulation, the official grade sheet takes precedence.

How do I convert my VTU CGPA to a percentage?

VTU's published conversion is percentage = CGPA × 10. Use the CGPA to percentage calculator to apply it automatically.

Regulation scope

For the VTU B.E./B.Tech. 2022 scheme. The official VTU site lists newer 2025 scheme resources, so confirm the admission year before using this scale.

SGPA formula

SGPA = Σ(Credit × Grade Point) ÷ Σ(Credits), rounded to two decimal places.

P is the minimum passing grade in this table. Use the grade and credit status printed on the official result.

What is counted

  • Credit-bearing courses in the semester, including a zero-point F only where the official result includes that course in the calculation.
  • O through P grade points from the 2022 scheme.

What is excluded

  • DX, AU, PP, NP, IC and W entries with no counted credits.
  • Non-credit audit or pass/fail courses.

Worked example

A 4-credit A gives 32 points, a 3-credit B+ gives 21 and a 2-credit P gives 8. SGPA = 61 ÷ 9 = 6.78.

Common mistakes

  • Counting a non-credit PP or AU course in the denominator.
  • Replacing VTU’s credit weighting with a plain average of the letter points.
