Important MAKAUT grading details

The printed scale uses seven mark-based letter grades from O to F. F is 2 grade points, not 0. Incomplete (I) is also printed as 2 points, but it is a status rather than a numeric mark band.

MAKAUT’s Controller of Examinations percentage certificate states that no class or division is awarded at semester or degree level, so this page does not invent “first class”, “distinction” or similar labels.

Regulation scope

For the MAKAUT grade-card scale used in the cited official examination rules and conversion certificate. A programme-specific or autonomous record can use a different scheme.

Marks to grade point

Match the final course marks to the published band, then use the grade point shown in the MAKAUT grade-card table.

F and I both show 2 points in the grade-card model. I means incomplete and is not a below-40 marks band.

What is counted

  • The final course marks and grade status printed on the official record.
  • The credit and grade point used by the programme’s grade-card model.

What is excluded

  • An I status treated as an ordinary marks range.
  • A grade table from another MAKAUT programme or autonomous college.

Worked example

A final mark of 73 falls in A and gives 8 points. An I entry has no marks band, so its status must come from the official result rather than this marks lookup.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming F has zero points.
  • Assigning I from a guessed mark instead of reading the official incomplete status.
