Courses

MAKAUT grade cards print F = 2 and I = 2. An incomplete or failed course can still affect academic status; use your official grade card for formal reporting.

MAKAUT SGPA formula

SGPA = Σ(Credits × Grade Point) ÷ Σ(Credits). The current grade-card scale is O=10, E=9, A=8, B=7, C=6, D=5, F=2 and I=2.

MAKAUT also prints YGPA as the combined odd/even semester credit index divided by the combined credits. A plain average of two SGPAs is exact only when both semesters have the same total credits.

Rule source: MAKAUT First Regulations. Current grade-card conventions were cross-checked against recent MAKAUT-issued grade cards.

Regulation scope

For MAKAUT grade cards that use the published SGPA model. Current programme and NEP 2020 structures can differ, so use the scale and credits printed on your record.

SGPA formula

SGPA = Σ(Credit × Grade Point) ÷ Σ(Credits).

The published grade-card model assigns 2 points to F and I. I is an incomplete status, not a normal marks band.

What is counted

  • Credit-bearing courses shown in the semester grade card.
  • F and I at the grade-card point when the official record includes them in the index.

What is excluded

  • Non-credit courses and entries outside the SGPA credit total.
  • A different programme’s current assessment scheme.

Worked example

A 3-credit A gives 24 points, 4-credit B gives 28 and 2-credit F gives 4. SGPA = 56 ÷ 9 = 6.22.

Common mistakes

  • Replacing MAKAUT F = 2 with F = 0.
  • Silently dropping an I entry or taking a plain average of grade points.
