SRM 2021 assessment presets
Theory (T): CLA-1 unit-test average 50%, CLA-2 Lifelong Learning 10%, Final Examination 40%. Joint (J): 45% + 15% + 40%.
Project-based theory and lab
Project-based Theory (P) is fully internal: CLA-1 20%, Project Based Learning 60%, Report & Viva 20%. Laboratory/Practical (L) is also fully internal: first-cycle experiments 30%, second-cycle experiments 30%, Practical Examination 40%.
Project and Major Project
Semester 6 Project uses Review 1 30%, Review 2 40%, Project Report 10%, Viva 20%. Semester 8 Major Project uses Review 1 10%, Review 2 20%, Review 3 30%, Project Report 10%, Viva 30%.
Why can I edit every weight?
SRM R4.6 says assessment weightages for every course are provided in the respective course syllabus and follow the regulation templates. Faculty can also use varied CLA-II activities such as assignments, surprise tests, viva, quizzes, case studies, seminars, presentations, coding and project-based learning. Match the exact syllabus or faculty scheme when it differs.
The grade shown after all 100% of marks are entered is a pre-normalization estimate. SRM R8.2 says internal and final marks are normalized before the Controller of Examinations awards the official letter grade.

Can I change the assessment components and weights?
Yes. The default preset follows B.Tech/M.Tech (Integrated) Regulations 2021, but every component's label, maximum marks, and weight can be edited to match what your course faculty communicated, since internal assessment structure can vary by course and department.

Regulation scope
For SRMIST B.Tech. and M.Tech. Integrated courses under the 2021 regulation, B.Tech. 2022 batch onward. The course syllabus sets the exact assessment type and SRM normalizes marks before awarding the final grade.
Assessment weightage
Use the selected course preset: Joint = 45% CLA1 + 15% CLA2 practice + 40% final, Theory = 50% CLA1 + 10% CLA2 + 40% final, Project-based = 20% CLA1 + 60% PBL + 20% report or viva.
Lab, project and major project structures have their own splits. These presets estimate the weighted total before SRM normalization.
What is counted
- The assessment components and maximum marks in the course syllabus.
- The weight assigned to the selected Joint, Theory, Project-based, Lab or project structure.
What is excluded
- A component not present in the syllabus.
- An estimated pre-normalization total presented as the final official grade.
Worked example
For normalized component inputs of CLA1 42/50, CLA2 practice 8/10 and final 32/40, the weighted total is 42 + 8 + 32 = 82/100 before SRM normalization.
Common mistakes
- Using the Theory preset for a lab, Joint or project-based course.
- Skipping SRM’s normalization step and treating the weighted total as the transcript grade.
